Now Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancée (1969-2023) has also come forward. Literary manager Molly Hurwitz (32) dedicated a long post to her former partner on Instagram. In it, she looked back on the “complicated” relationship with the “Friends” star, who struggled with addiction problems for many years. The actor was found lifeless in his hot tub in Los Angeles on October 28th. Investigations into the exact circumstances are ongoing.
“He would love for the world to talk about how talented he was. And he really was very talented,” Hurwitz began her post on Instagram. She dated the series star from 2018 to 2021. “As the Friends meeting got closer, we watched the show together again,” she recalled. The reunion special premiered on HBO Max in 2021 – 17 years after the successful sitcom ended. Perry played the role of Chandler Bing for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004. While watching it, he said: “Man, I was so good! Do you see what I did?” They would have rewound again and again and studied individual scenes. “Our respect and appreciation for humor is something that binds us together. Being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance was magical.”
After appreciating his talent, she described the second, darker side of Matthew Perry. “But obviously I also knew this man in a completely different way. Although I loved him deeper than I could understand, he was complicated and he caused pain I had never known.” She continued: “No one in my adult life has had a deeper impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. For that, I am enormously grateful for everything I have learned from our relationship.”
She then pointed out the Al Anon self-help group for relatives of alcoholics. It is “an invaluable resource for those who love someone struggling with this devastating disease.” Molly Hurwitz concluded her statement with the words: “Matty, I feel relieved that you are at peace.”
The couple got engaged in November 2020. At the time, Perry gushed to People magazine: “I decided to get engaged. Luckily, I happened to be dating the most amazing woman on the planet at the time.” But just a few months later it was all over: in June 2021 they called off their engagement. “Sometimes it just doesn’t work out and that’s the case here,” he told People. “I wish Molly nothing but the best.”
