Manuel Neuer will not immediately return to the German national football team after his successful Bundesliga debut. According to information from “Sport Bild”, national coach Julian Nagelsmann will not nominate the FC Bayern Munich goalkeeper for the two upcoming international matches. The DFB team will face Turkey on November 18th in Berlin and Austria on November 21st in Vienna.
Neuer recently celebrated a successful comeback in the goal of the German record champions in the 8-0 win against Darmstadt 98. The 37-year-old returned 323 days after his skiing accident with a severe fracture to his lower leg. During his injury break, Marc-André ter Stegen from FC Barcelona became the new number one in the DFB goal. For world champion Neuer it is also about a place in the squad for the home European Championships next year.
“He has other worries at the moment. Manuel is happy that he is back, so it makes no sense now to develop a fuss about who will make it to the European Championships or not,” Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß said: “We are happy that he’s back. He himself is happy to be back and we have a lot of important games in the next few months, so the European Championship is still too far away.”Neuer himself had said about the DFB comeback after his return to Bayern. Tor said on Saturday: “I think that’s a topic that I’m not currently dealing with because I played my first game today.” With him, “everything is deeply relaxed,” assured the multiple world goalkeeper. “I’m looking forward to the next games and will give it my all as always.” Regarding competitor ter Stegen, Neuer said: “I think he is definitely number one at the moment.”
