In the debate about the bonus for the title at the Basketball World Cup, the brothers Franz Wagner and Moritz Wagner can understand captain Dennis Schröder’s expectations.
“I understand the point,” said Moritz Wagner to the German Press Agency on the sidelines of his Orlando Magic’s away game at the Los Angeles Lakers. “I wouldn’t like to limit this success to a financial value, that’s not what you play for. At the same time, it’s nicer when you know that you’re valued in a certain way and I think we still have that together as German basketball a lot of work ahead of us,” said the older of the two Berliners.
Franz Wagner, the second best player on the German team after Schröder at the World Cup, said after Orlando’s 103:106 defeat at the Lakers: “You can definitely work on it. I’m not that experienced, I have to say. I believe we will find a solution as an association and as a team.”
According to media reports, 16,000 euros per player are available for the sensational World Cup triumph in Manila at the beginning of September, which is said to have caused anger among the basketball players. Schröder told the “Braunschweiger Zeitung” last week: “We just want the appreciation that we all together as a team, and of course every single player, sacrificed the summer to play for the national team, the eagle on the to bear on the chest.” The 30-year-old from the Toronto Raptors added: “I think that should and will be well appreciated by the Federation. That would be cool.”
