The European Food Alert Network (RASFF) has sent an alert to the Spanish Agency for Food Safety (AESAN), dependent on the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, regarding the presence of peanut protein in soy lecithin in almost a hundred processed products with chocolate by eleven brands, without this circumstance being noted on the labeling.
The OCU, which echoes this alert, warns that there are almost a hundred products made with chocolate, both bars and chocolate bars, figures – in the shape of coins, umbrellas, pencils – from eleven brands: Amatller, Bon Preu , Amatller Chocolates, Mendaro Chocolates, Lacasa Chocolates, Simon Coll Chocolates, Simon Coll/Waksman Chocolates, Faborit, Ka Kaw, Lekkerland and the Chocolate Museum.
According to the information available, these products have been distributed in most of the autonomous communities. The authorities are checking its withdrawal from the market. As a precautionary measure, peanut allergy sufferers who may have the above products in their homes are advised to refrain from consuming them. For the rest of the population there is no risk.
Given that several of these products are aimed at children (they are shaped like umbrellas, coins, pencils…), OCU recommends that parents be attentive to the possible symptoms of a food allergy, which can be very varied and can be combined with each other. yes: urticaria (rash in the form of hives and/or itching), swelling of the lips, sneezing, itchy nose, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, etc. In case of intense symptoms and, especially, respiratory distress, it is advisable to seek medical assistance.
