A good-looking Friday for the Spaniards at the Montmeló circuit. The first trials of the Spanish Grand Prix indicate that both Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso can meet their expectations if misfortune does not cross. Sainz finished fourth and second in the respective sessions, and Alonso, fifth and sixth. The tests point to another team on the rise: Mercedes seems to have taken an important step forward with its evolutions.
In addition to the performance of Charles Leclerc, the leader of the World Cup, Carlos Sainz has the pressure/motivation to race in Spain, where he has always done well and where more than three thousand unconditional fans await him in the grandstand that bears his name.
With improvements to the rear wing and to the ground, the Ferrari held strong.
Leclerc was the best in both races and Sainz accompanied him at the top during the first.
But the distance with its competitors is very small. Mercedes has made that leap. Russell was second just a tenth slower than Leclerc, while Hamilton, again behind his teammate, secured third place (0.204).
Alonso finally hopes for a round grand prix, without incidents or broken engines or penalties. With evolutions in the two wings, the Asturian driver signed a very drinkable Friday, fifth and sixth, ahead of his teammate Esteban Ocon in both.
