Driver Lance Stroll took 12th and 13th places in the first two free practice sessions of the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix held on Friday in Barcelona.

At the wheel of his Aston Martin car, the Quebecer clocked a time of 1 min 21.920 s during the initial session, while Ferrari’s two color bearers, Charles Leclerc (1:19.828) and Carlos Sainz Jr. (1: 19.907), dominated. The morning top 3 was completed by Max Verstappen, on Red Bull, in 1:20.164.

Back in action for the second session, Stroll used hard and soft tires, continuing with lap 13 in the standings at 1:21.249. Leclerc was again the most convincing by virtue of a passage of 1:19.670. This time the two Mercedes drivers, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, followed in 1:19.787 and 1:19.874 respectively.

Replacing Alexander Albon at Williams, reigning Formula E champion Nick de Vries finished 18th in the first session in 1:22.920. Albon took over his car for second and finished on the same level.

Third practice and qualifying will take place on Saturday. The race, sixth of the 2022 season, will take place the next day.
