Shakira will have to sit in the dock for alleged tax fraud. The Barcelona Court has rejected the appeal presented by the Colombian singer, after the instructor of the case concluded, in July 2021, that there were “sufficient indications” to prosecute her for evading the payment of 14.5 million euros to the Treasury.
In its order, the 10th Section rejects the allegations of the artist from Barranquilla, whose defense maintained that she was “a resident for all purposes, also in the prosecutors, in the Bahamas”, something that the court rejects, considering that Shakira “was a resident usual in Spain.
The magistrates thus point out that the documentation provided by the singer to prove her tax residence in another country does not “seem sufficient”, in terms of tax regulations.
