The municipality of Uvalde (Texas) is still in shock. The bloody spiral that shook the city last Tuesday, when an 18-year-old armed with two firearms broke into Robb Elementary School and killed 21 people, 19 minors and two teachers, is still etched in their minds.

The nightmare in which the town has been plunged by the massacre will remain indelible in their minds for a long time. Little by little, some details of this chilling story are transcending. An example of this is that Salvador Ramos remained in the educational center between 40 minutes and an hour before being shot down by the Police. This has been assured by the authorities to the BBC.

This was stated by Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety at a press conference. He stated that Ramos was at the scene between 40 minutes and an hour before the police were able to “contain” him.

It was during this period of time that, entrenched in the class of the victims, he dedicated himself to endlessly shooting the terrified creatures and the teachers who, despite their attempts, could not prevent the slaughter.

The sad event has sparked criticism from some people who accuse the agents of not having accessed the facilities, while the latter deny it.

Among the testimonies is that of a 24-year-old who, according to his version, witnessed the scene from outside his home and indicated that the Police did not enter the center, an extreme that does not seem to fit when, according to what has been reported by the murderer was shot down at school.

Javier Cazares, father of one of the murdered minors, expressed himself along the same lines when he stated that he suggested doing something to other relatives because the agents “were not doing anything.” In this sense, the authorities specified that the attacker locked himself in a classroom to which the officers struggled to access.

In contrast, the head of the US Border Patrol, Raúl Ortiz, asserted that dozens of officers responded to the shooting and “did not hesitate” to act. “They went into the classroom and took care of the situation as fast as they could,” he said.

Hence, according to other versions, the parents tried to access the Texas school while the police waited outside. Some families of the victims are wondering why officers didn’t intervene in the shooting earlier, CNN reports.
