If you don’t feel like buying the new VW Passat, you now have a real alternative that could convince you. Even though the VW Passat and Skoda Superb had already been related to each other for a long time, they were now developed together. As much as the design of the two corporate brothers differs, there is largely identical technology, although the Czech counterpart is still available as a sedan version, while the Passat remains a station wagon. Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer: “The Superb has led Skoda’s combustion engine portfolio for over 20 years. Further optimized drivetrains and improved aerodynamics achieve even greater efficiency. We have completely renewed the plug-in hybrid; it now offers an electric range of more than 100 kilometers.”
The design of the approximately 4.90 meter long Superb has only been carefully developed further compared to its predecessor. The drive is provided by three petrol engines, two diesel engines and a new plug-in hybrid drive with an electric range of more than one hundred kilometers and a power range from 110 kW / 150 hp to 195 kW / 265 hp. All versions have a dual clutch transmission and, as before, the two top models offer all-wheel drive. The Skoda Superb 2024 has increased not in comfort and safety features, but also in driver assistance systems. Inside, the Skoda Superb offers the familiar generous amount of space at the front and rear as well as a new operating concept with a 13-inch central display. For the first time, the luxury sedan from Mlada Boleslav is also available with a head-up display upon request.
Due to the slightly increased dimensions, there is more space not only for the occupants in both rows of seats, but also for luggage, as the sedan version now has 645 liters and the station wagon version has 690 liters, which can be significantly enlarged by folding down the rear seats. The Skoda Superb Combi has a maximum loading volume of 1,920 liters. If desired, the Superb can now pamper the driver and front passenger on longer journeys with air-conditioned massage seats and electric controls. For the first time, the sedan and station wagon based on the Enyaq model have practical smartphone pockets on the back of the front seats and the top model offers a sliding center armrest with integrated cup and tablet holders in the rear.
In addition to the well-known diesel and gasoline engines with four cylinders and 1.5 and 2.0 liter displacements, the new plug-in hybrid is likely to be the right choice for many customers. The new generation of PHEV is exclusively reserved for the Superb Combi. The system output of the family station wagon is 150 kW / 204 hp, which is transmitted solely to the front wheels via a six-speed dual clutch transmission. An all-wheel drive version is left out here. Thanks to a storage capacity of a maximum of 25.7 kWh, the hybrid can cover distances of more than a hundred kilometers purely electrically – over 40 km more than in the previous model. With a maximum charging speed of eleven kilowatts on the wall boxes or charging stations, the battery pack goes from zero to one hundred percent of capacity in two and a half hours. You can refuel with up to 50 kW at a fast charging station.
