Max Verstappen took pole position for the São Paulo Grand Prix. The 26-year-old Dutchman secured first place on the grid in the early-ended Formula 1 qualifying on the Interlagos circuit.
Just five minutes before the actual end of the session, the race stewards declared the knockout round over. There were extremely bad weather conditions. It was pitch dark and a heavy cloudburst flooded the route.
Second behind Red Bull driver Verstappen was Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari ahead of the Aston Martin duo Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. Nico Hülkenberg missed the top ten and finished eleventh in the Haas. Because a sprint race will take place in Brazil on Saturday for the last time this year, qualification for the Grand Prix took place on Friday.
