The victory in Class A of the Real Club Maritimo de Barcelona was confirmed in the Spanish Cup of Catamarans-Grand Prix City of La Coruña, which has been organized by delegation of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, the Marina Coruña Yacht Club, which presides over the legendary ocean sailor Chuny Bermúdez de Castro.
The sailor Quique Cornejo, with a series in seven valid races of three first, two seconds and a third (rejecting an eighth) accumulated a total of 10 points, one less than his great rival on this occasion, the Olympic Gustavo Doreste of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona that achieved a first and five second places. The bronze went to another Barcelona athlete, José López, also from Náutico, already five points behind the leader.
Further back to a great Ameixende level from Oza Beach.
Excellent wind and sea conditions on the closing day in the waters of the La Coruña estuary: west from 10 to 14 knots, which made it possible to increase the number of races held to seven in Class A and eight in F18, class in the one imposed by the Migiya-Torné couple from the Club Nàutic de Vilanova. The Barcelonans made partials of three first, one second, one third and two quarters. Every time they discarded a fourth place, they accumulated 16 net points.
Following them were the Galicians Orsmond and Esteban Martínez from the Real Club Náutico de La Coruña, who although they started weak with 8th and 12th… from then on they sailed at an incredible level: two firsts and four seconds, which made them second in the general classification, very close to the Catalans, and their victory would not have been unfair. The bronze went to Polimeni-Bargallo de Vilanova, also from Barcelona.
Also noteworthy in this category are the sailors from the Náutico de Cabanas de Ferrolterra, Diego and Álvaro Corral, who reached a more than creditable fifth place. In the Interseries category, Alfonso Gil from the Playa de Oza Sailing Club prevailed.
