The Minister of Economy and Finance of the Board, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, has wanted the company, investors and workers to reach an agreement that allows the continuity of Siro in Venta de Baños (Palencia).
Carriedo has defended that the regional Executive “always” has been in contact and supporting Siro, and they hope that an agreement will be reached to know “in what measures the support of the Board is necessary, which will always be there.”
The spokesman for the regional government has specified that the negotiations between the three parties involved continue and has insisted that his wish is for there to be an agreement that “guarantees the competitiveness and employment” of the industry: “We have always been supporting projects that generate employment, wealth and guarantee business and industrial competitiveness.
Cerealto Siro Foods communicated this Monday to the works council its intention to close its factory in the aforementioned town of Palencia, an announcement that has also been echoed by the PSOE of Castilla y León, which has asked the Board, and specifically its President, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, to “throw the rest” so that no worker is fired.
The Federation of Industry, Construction and Agro of UGT Castilla y León has also requested to minimize the impact of the closure and has insisted on defending the employment of the 1,100 workers that the Group currently has.
For its part, the Workers’ Commissions (CCOO) of Castilla y León have called for Cerealto Siro Foods to “put together” an industrial plan to guarantee all direct jobs, as well as the workload of the four plants in the Community, distributed in Venta de Baños , Aguilar de Campoo and Toro.
The regional secretary of the CCOO Industry Federation, Gonzalo Díez Piñeles, has assured that the company’s plan must give guarantees to the workforce because he specified that the union’s position is the defense of “each and every one” of the positions of Grupo Siro in Castilla y León, in addition to guaranteeing the workloads and the growth of the company. Not in vain, he has underlined, according to the Ical Agency, that the agri-food sector has hardly been affected by the Covid pandemic: «The potential that the group may have is important but the part of the management and direction has limped quite a bit », has sentenced.
