The nationalist formation EH-Bildu claims to have extracted from the Government a commitment to include in the decree expanding the anti-crisis measures deployed due to the impact of the war a 15% improvement in the amounts of non-contributory pensions until the end of 2022. The measure, which is not confirmed by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, would only be valid this year and would serve to cover the loss of purchasing power of the group in the midst of a runaway price escalation.
In exchange, the Basque independence party will abstain from the public pension fund bill that the Government must approve before the end of this month to comply with the commitments adopted with the European Commission. In addition, this measure was also included in the sixteenth recommendation of the Toledo Pact, which was supported by almost all the political groups.
According to a Bildu statement, the measure will allow the amounts of these benefits to be increased between 60 and 100 euros per month until the end of the year, from the moment of application, without a retroactive character and with duration until the month of December.
Likewise, Bildu assures in the statement in which it confirms its abstention towards the bill that “not a single euro from Social Security is allocated to the pension fund, thus avoiding the decapitalization of Social Security and shielding public pensions and their sustainability”.
In this way, he celebrates having “managed to disrupt the intention of the rights to use this law to introduce and extend private pension funds through benefits for those who can pay them”, something they understand as a “every man for himself that came to weaken the system pension public.
“We know that it is not enough, but we are sure that this measure will bring relief to thousands and thousands of pensioners and one more step on the road to the dignity they deserve,” says its spokesman for the Toledo Pact, Iñaki Ruiz de Pinedo , assuming that “this achievement would not have been possible without the push of the pensioners’ movement”.
