The town of Venta de Baños in Palencia is concerned about the decision communicated this week by the Siro company to close its biscuit factory in the town, which employs 197 people.
The City Council yesterday sent a letter to the President of the Board, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, to hold an urgent meeting to discuss this matter, for which the mayor, the socialist José María López, asked the regional government to provide the “means” and ” money” as he has done “on other occasions”.
And it is that, as he said, not only the direct employment of settled families is at risk, but also the companies that depend on the factory, the indirect jobs and the trade of a town where the cookie maker has been operating for about 50 years.
