The president of the Council of Official Colleges of Physicians of Castilla y León, José Luis Díaz Villarig, has indicated this Friday that more professionals will be needed as a result of the “feminization” of the sector. That is one of the conclusions of the report presented by the highest representative of the body that groups these health professionals, in which it is pointed out that in a decade women will account for around 70 percent of the medical group.
In the study, it is also assured in the next line that the “improvement in the reconciliation of family and work life and the application of European regulations on working hours and the law on prevention of occupational risks” will also require more personnel.
The representative of the doctors has defended and has been in favor of the conciliation measures and the equalization of paternity and maternity leave, but has assured that certain “political decisions”, such as sick leave due to painful menstruations, which also seem to him «positive for women, they have «consequences» when it comes to planning human resources.
For this reason, he has asked the central government to provide “solutions” to these decisions because, “if they are not adopted, we will have a problem” and the “pagans” will be the 2.5 million Castilian and Leonese. “Decisions are for today, but solutions in this sector take years to arrive” because of the time it takes to train professionals, he concluded.
