Joe Don Rooney will be reported to have spent two days in prison and will lose his driver’s licence
Joe Don Rooney reportedly pleaded guilty in 2021 to DUI charges after being arrested in September.
According to WKRN, the 46-year-old Rascal Flatts guitarist entered his guilty plea Wednesday. According to The Tennessean, he was sentenced for two days in prison and his remaining sentence of 11 and 27 days was suspended.
PEOPLE reached out to Rascal Flatts for clarification, but they did not respond immediately.
Rooney’s driver license was also revoked. However, he will be able to apply for a restricted license to drive a vehicle equipped with a breathalyzer, according to The Tennessean.
Rooney was taken into custody in September for crashing his car into the tree in Franklin, Tennessee. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed this to PEOPLE. Rooney was taken to Williamson County jail and released several hours later on $2,500 bail.
The Grammy Award winner and his bandmates cancelled their farewell tour in 2020 and stated that they would not be rescheduling it “for the near future.” PEOPLE previously reported that Gary LeVox, lead vocalist, had said that he was “never OK” with the ending of their farewell tour. He added that in October, he wasn’t happy that Joe Don had quit.
LeVox said, “It sort of happened out of nowhere.” It was like I had to try and understand this. The pandemic that decimated everything was a disaster. It was horrible. It was a terrible decision that we did not get to take this farewell tour. It just feels like there is no closure to something we have been so fortunate with. It will always be in me.”
