The XVII SURNE-57th Eskarra Trophy Regatta returned to the Biscayan waters of the Abra with the final victory of Maitena in the Regatta class, also overall winner, of Ignacio Giménez’s Kenex V in Cruise I, of Koldo Báez’s Marmotinha in Cruise II, of the Javier Onaindia’s Symphony in the class without a certificate and Fingolfin among the 80 monotypes.
In the Regatta class boats, Mikel Emaldi’s Maitena shone more than anyone, who enjoyed sailing and conditions that benefited the Farr 45 of the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, organizer of one of the most anticipated events in the Cantabrian. In second place was the crew of Carlos Maidagan’s Despeada, with Mauricio Guibert’s Akelarre third after the two routes scheduled by the Committee for this class.
For its part, the Kenex V, from the Real Club Náutico de Laredo, clearly won Cruise I, followed by Thelonius, Modark and Tchin Tchin, all three tied with 6 points. The best in Cruise II, just like a year ago, was Koldo Báez’s Marmotinha, from Orza, with Juan Carlos Estefanía’s Kohen in second place. Already among the boats without a certificate, the Symphony of the veteran skipper Javier Onaindia was first, with the Nexus second, the Ramper third and the Emilu fourth.
The overall Cruise-Regatta overall was headed by the Maitena, whose crew lifted the beautiful trophy at the awards ceremony, completing the podium with the Kenex V, second, and the Despeinada, third.
Among the boats in the J80 division, Fingolfin was the most consistent with its victory in the first race, after a good start, and then two second places in a tough battle with Biobizz and Fhimasa. In second place overall, José Azqueta’s Biobizz, who won the second round, was classified just one point behind the winner, and third was Nicolás Viar’s Fhimasa Escuela de Vela José Luis de Ugarte, who scored a last sleeve, the one with more miles, which ended with a beautiful triangle in the interior Abra with buoys in the vicinity of Portugalete and Algorta. The Vissi finished fourth and the Jet Set fifth. Later, the Mandovi dalecandELA, the Obelix and the Ausart were classified.
One of the classic sailing events in the Bay of Biscay was held from 1:30 p.m. on a cloudy day with a north-northwest wind of seven to thirteen knots and a little rain in the final section. This regatta also served to score for the I Engels Trophy
