The president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, stated this Wednesday that he is “proud to be from the land of ranchers, from the land of ham” and that his Government will always “work in favor of the sector to defend it from those who criticize it for ideology but then they eat it well ». Mañueco has thus made an appearance through a video at the opening of the XI World Ham Congress, as he was unable to travel to Segovia in person. Until Friday, the event brings together around 430 participants, who will have 30 presentations.
Alfonso Fernández Mañueco has assured that ham is “capable of making the most meticulous palates surrender at its feet”, and has guaranteed “the support of the Board for the promising future” of a sector “so important” for the rural environment and for Community demographic targets.
The Chairman of the Board addressed the hundreds of guests and authorities present in the Aula Magna of IE University Segovia, delighted that “Castilla y León is these days the world epicenter of flavor par excellence, the flavor of good ham”.
He has advanced that the congress, under the slogan ‘El Jamón is reinvented in Segovia’, “will be a success with the impulse of so many operators, producers and accredited people in this exciting world”.
The inauguration of the XI World Ham Congress, which runs until Friday and has as its central theme ‘Innovation as a global solution for the ham value chain’, was attended by the mayor of Segovia, Clara Martín; the Councilor for Tourism, Miguel Merino; the Deputy Minister for Community Agrarian Policy and Rural Development, Juan Pedro Medina; the deputy for Economic Promotion, Noemí Otero, and the rector of IE University, Salvador Carmona.
The president and general secretary of FES, Andrés Ortega and Beatriz Escudero, also attended the inauguration, according to Ical. The congress has the Honorary Presidency of the King of Spain, Felipe VI. About 430 face-to-face participants will listen to the research and reflections of some thirty speakers.
