This Wednesday the Mini Jockeys School was inaugurated in collaboration with the La Zarzuela Hippodrome, a project that will give children the opportunity to learn to ride a pony, which will serve as the cradle of the base sport for future horse racing jockeys
The school is led by the Spanish jockey Nieves García and Professor Roberto García, owner and great fan, who have embarked on this great project with the main objective of bringing the little ones closer to the equestrian world and so that “they learn to treat These animals”. “We want to create jockeys, gentlemen and fans for the racing industry, but we are also going to work hard on dealing with the horse and its daily care,” explained Nieves García in the presentation.
The courses will be taught in different groups of children, aged between three years and up to sixteen, who will be shown the different skills as riders, as well as the knowledge and care of the horse. They will also be able to enjoy the toy library available at the school.
From the month of July the summer camps will begin in which the children will be able to enjoy a multitude of outdoor activities, and from September classes will begin on a regular basis.
Children enrolled in the school will also have the opportunity to participate in the second phase of the 2022 PonyTurf Championship, which will be held at the racecourse starting in September.
The Mini Jockeys School is located at the La Zarzuela Hippodrome and will have ponies of different categories, a race track, stables and a riding school. In addition, the center gives the opportunity to sponsor ponies such as Vela, Deisy, Nipona, Canela and many others, to collaborate in their care.
Nieves García has extensive experience as a professional rider. At 44 years old, he has accumulated more than 60 triumphs in more than 1,300 performances, among which he has experienced great triumphs such as the Habitancum Prize at the Zarzuela Hippodrome in 2016, and also scares such as the one in October of that same year, when he suffered a a serious fall from which he fortunately recovered and allowed him to continue competing at the highest level. The jockey, who is still active, has been the first woman to win a Grand Prix in Spain and the first Spanish rider to participate in the Saudi Cup.
