The arrival of the seventh wave of coronavirus in the Valencian Community has managed to double the number of infections in a week and increase the number of hospitalized by nearly forty percent. A “worrying” upward trend that has led the Generalitat to recommend the use of the mask in crowds and spaces without ventilation.

According to the latest report published by the Ministry of Health, last Friday 8,789 positives for Covid-19 were reported in the Valencian Community, more than double those registered seven days ago. Of these, 3,775 correspond to people over sixty years of age, the only population segment that accounts for the cumulative incidence at seven and fourteen days.

In this regard, the Ministry of Health reported that the Valencian Community maintains a rate of 715 infections per hundred thousand inhabitants, while the national average rises to 996 cases.

In this way, the region only has Andalusia below it with less incidence.

Regarding the new epidemiological situation, the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, has been “concerned” about the increase in infections and hospitalizations due to coronavirus detected in recent weeks, for which he has called on the public to ” be more cautious again »and has advised the use of the mask in crowds and spaces where there is no ventilation.

In this line, the president of the Valencia College of Nursing (COENV), Laura Almudéver, has recommended this Monday that the mask be used again in closed places, where there is a large influx of public and it is impossible to maintain the safety distance before the increase in Covid cases and the saturation of hospitals due to the seventh wave of infections.

Regarding healthcare pressure, the Generalitat report raises the total number of people admitted for covid in Valencian hospitals to 993, forty percent more than a week ago. Of these, 42 remain in the Intensive Care Unit.

On the other hand, the department led by Minguel Mínguez reported eighteen deaths from coronavirus since the last update, all with a date of death in the last seven days. They are eleven women between 69 and 99 years old and seven men between 64 and 89 years old. The total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic amounts to 9,538.
