After attacks on the US Federal Police FBI because of the search of ex-President Donald Trump’s estate, incumbent Joe Biden has heavily criticized the Republicans and their supporters.

“It’s disgusting to see the new attacks on the FBI threatening the lives of law enforcement officers and their families just for following the law and doing their jobs,” Democrat Biden said in a speech on gun violence in Wilkes-Barre (Pennsylvania). There should be no place in the US for such aggression against officials.

On August 8, the FBI federal police searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in the state of Florida and confiscated, among other things, several confidential and sometimes top-secret documents. The background is the Republican’s handling of official documents from his term as President. Because Trump kept papers, some of which require strict protection because of their sensitive content, in his private estate, he could have broken the law. However, Trump supporters and Republican politicians accuse the FBI of being corrupt and part of a politically motivated act.

Biden also indirectly targeted influential Republican Lindsey Graham. He had said: “If they try to prosecute President Trump for mishandling secret information (…), then there will be literally riots on the streets”. Biden expressed dismay at the prospect of “putting on a TV and hearing senior senators and congressmen” talk about violent rioting: “Where the hell are we?”
