The Dutch police are looking for two men who are said to have dragged a 33-year-old German with a car at the end of June after an attempted fraud and killed him. In total, the two fraudsters are said to have cost six German victims at least half a million euros, according to a program on Dutch television on Tuesday evening. A reward of 15,000 euros has been offered for information leading to the capture of the men.
In the case of the 33-year-old from Zülpich in North Rhine-Westphalia, the scammers pretended to want to buy an apartment from the man. At the same time, they had asked for 100,000 euros to be exchanged for smaller bills. At the meeting on June 23 at the Kerkrade football stadium, they snatched the suitcase with the money from the German. When he tried to stop the men fleeing in the car, he was carried away and killed. An uncle who accompanied him witnessed what happened. According to police, one of the victims of another scam was also swept away by a car, but survived.
In the other cases of fraud, the two men had pretended to want to buy luxury goods or real estate and had robbed their victims of large sums of money since April. The search is on for a German-speaking man around 60 years old and a younger accomplice. The two, of whom there are recordings from surveillance cameras, posed as businessmen from a Luxembourg investment company. After their crimes, they fled several times in the direction of Belgium.
