In Brandenburg, around 35,000 people are expected to benefit from a one-off heating subsidy from the federal government to relieve high energy prices. The recipients of housing benefit should probably receive at least 270 euros from the end of September, the recipients of student loans and participants in advancement training at least 230 euros, the State Chancellery announced on Wednesday in Potsdam. The red-black-green cabinet passed a corresponding regulation on Tuesday. The grant is part of the federal government’s relief package.

Around 26,000 households that received housing benefit for at least one month during the heating period between October 2021 and March of this year will receive the heating subsidy. No application is necessary for this. Anyone who lives alone receives 270 euros, two household members receive 350 euros and each additional member receives an additional 70 euros. Around 3,300 pupils and students and 2,700 participants in further training receive 230 euros.

Building Minister Guido Beermann (CDU) called for further relief from the federal government in view of rising energy prices. The heating subsidy should not remain a one-time financial injection, said Beermann. “Especially in view of the current energy price crisis, it is all the more important to support the people who need it most. The federal government must act quickly and unbureaucratically here.”
