It is a crushing defeat for the traffic lights in Karlsruhe. The Federal Constitutional Court ruled this Wednesday that the so-called climate and transformation fund worth around 60 billion euros violates the Basic Law. The federal government wanted to retroactively reallocate unused Corona aid funds in the 2021 budget – and thus circumvent the debt brake prescribed in the constitution. The CDU and CSU had sued.

On the day the decision was announced, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) had to answer questions from MPs in the Bundestag. First he will speak for a few minutes about a topic of his own choosing, then the parliamentarians will cross-examine him.
