Three accidents in less than an hour: Several people were injured, two of them seriously, in traffic accidents in quick succession on wet roads on Saturday in the Trier-Saarburg district.

According to the police, a 56-year-old motorcyclist with his eight-year-old son as a passenger was on the B419 near Nittel-Rehlingen on Saturday afternoon. The machine went off the roadway and crashed into a guardrail. Both were taken to a hospital with injuries, but were not believed to be life-threatening. Nothing was initially known about the exact degree of the injuries suffered by the two accident victims. Investigators suspect that a slick of oil on the roadway caused the accident.

Shortly thereafter, a motorcyclist in Saarburg came off the road after a driving error and crashed, the police said. The driver and his passenger were not injured.

Finally, between Saarburg and Irsch, two cars collided on the B407. According to police information, a 19-year-old had lost control of her car in a curve, which then came to a standstill across the direction of travel. An oncoming car belonging to a 70-year-old then crashed head-on into the passenger side of the vehicle, it said. The 19-year-old was seriously injured, her passenger of the same age suffered serious injuries. The 70-year-old was only slightly injured, it said. Investigations into the causes of the accident are ongoing.
