Before the Oktoberfest, aesthetic plastic surgeons in Munich put more beauty injections than in other months. He therefore offers consultation hours in the Bavarian capital shortly before the start of the Wiesn, said Werner Mang, head of the Bodenseeklinik in Lindau. The main focus is on interventions against wrinkles on the face with Botox and hyaluronic acid. “After 24 hours you’re ironed smooth and ready to tap without any creases.”
However, such interventions are not necessarily so spontaneous, said the Munich specialist for plastic and aesthetic surgery, Dominik von Lukowicz. After all, Botox needs a few days before the effect becomes visible – and fillers such as hyaluronic acid could possibly cause bruises. “So it makes sense not to go to the practice the day before, but to plan it earlier.”
In his practice, with a view to the Oktoberfest, he has noticed increased demand since July, said von Lukowicz. Wrinkle-free and firmer faces are particularly popular. But “fresher” décolletés are also among the more frequent requests from patients, said the aesthetic plastic surgeon Edouard Manassa from Düsseldorf, who runs a practice in Munich. “You show more of that with a dirndl.”
Implants for tighter-looking calves below the lederhosen are also on the wish list of some Wiesn visitors, as confirmed by Bodenseeklinik manager Mang. However, none of the cosmetic procedures should be taken lightly. “This is not a cosmetics visit,” Manassa said. “It’s important that a specialist does it – and that there is an explanation beforehand.”
