After a sideways collision between an ICE and a regional train, the railway line between Munich and Ingolstadt was once again passable in both directions on Saturday. There are no longer any train cancellations or diversions, but there are still delays, said a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn. Not all tracks are clear yet.
The trains collided sideways on Friday afternoon halfway between Munich and Ingolstadt at a switch at the train station in Reichertshausen (Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm district). Seven people were slightly injured. Two of the slightly injured were treated on an outpatient basis at Pfaffenhofen Hospital on Friday, said a federal police spokeswoman.
It is still unclear whether a technical defect or a human error caused the accident. The police spokeswoman said that the dispatcher and the two train drivers would be listed as witnesses in the investigation into suspected dangerous interference with rail traffic.
Both trains were taken to a workshop. A switch and rails were damaged. Local and long-distance trains are running as scheduled again in both directions, but so far only two tracks are free, said a railway spokesman. This is also why there are still delays.
According to the railway, the trains brushed against each other at a switch at Reichertshausen station around 2:15 p.m. on Friday. According to the police, the regional train had just left the station when the collision with the ICE train that was passing through occurred. The approximately 700 passengers from the two trains later had to continue their journey by bus, taxi or other trains. Since late evening the route has been single-tracked again.
