Under the motto “Christmas in the Box”, the seafarers’ missions in Hamburg are once again starting their Christmas campaign for seafarers. Anyone can bring joy to sailors as an elf or Santa Claus. “Sailors have a very special burden to bear if they cannot be with their family at Christmas,” said Jörn Hille, head of the “Duckdalben” sailors’ club. A win-win for both sides: “Those on land enjoy simply doing good and packing a gift for sailors. And the sailors enjoy unpacking it. And it shows that someone is interested in this Thinking about her for days.”

For the campaign, standard shoe boxes were to be transformed into a gift box. But every other – packaged – gift in a transportable size is also collected by the seafarers’ missions in order to bring them on board container ships, tugboats, tankers and harbor dredgers during the holidays. Clothing such as socks, hats, gloves, sweets, hygiene products such as deodorant, shower gel, shampoo and toothpaste are in demand. Plus a Christmas greeting in English if possible and Christmas decorations. The gift boxes can be handed in to the Hamburg Seaman’s Missions until December 23rd.
