Home cooking doesn’t have to be boring. True to the motto “There used to be more tinsel”, old kitchen classics with boring names like “Krautpfanne” are still convincing in every respect today: uncomplicated, inexpensive and easy to prepare, they are perfect for every day.
The named cabbage pan used to be a long-time favorite, especially in winter – white cabbage can be stored for an above-average time and can therefore be used regardless of external circumstances such as war or weather conditions. In addition, the cabbage vegetables provide plenty of vitamins, minerals and trace elements that can sustainably strengthen the immune system in the cold season. A complete package that also tastes good and fills you up.
By the way: The good old cabbage pan is not only a tried and tested classic in Germany. In Poland, the cabbage noodles from Saxony are known as “Lazanki”, in Austria they call them “Krautfleckerl”. Depending on the region, the dish is modified a little – and refined with bacon cubes, Vienna or hunting sausage.
