Bavaria’s Finance Minister Albert Füracker (CSU) criticizes the plans of Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) to continue funding broadband expansion until 2023. “First a sudden stop in funding without warning and now the municipalities are being put off by the federal government until January or even later. That’s not good style,” said Füracker of the Bayern media group (Wednesday). For many municipalities, the pressing question remains as to when and whether they will be able to do so next year.

The rapporteur for the SPD parliamentary group responsible for broadband expansion, Johannes Schätzl, said after the report: “It’s not about stopping construction, it’s just about stopping the acceptance of applications. More than three billion euros are also available for 2023.” However, Schätzl now demands speed from Minister Wissing: “For 2023 we now need a new funding guideline quickly so that the federal states and municipalities have planning security.”
