The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the corona incidence for North Rhine-Westphalia as 578.5 on Wednesday. The number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants reported within seven days was 637.8 on Wednesday last week and 299.7 four weeks ago. Within 24 hours, 20,979 confirmed new cases and 46 deaths related to the corona virus were added in NRW.
The RKI reported the highest incidences within NRW on Wednesday for the Siegen-Wittgenstein district (854.4) and the Minden-Lübbecke district (821.0). The values were lowest in the city of Oberhausen (377.0) and in the district of Olpe (381.6).
However, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections. Experts have been assuming for a long time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations and transmission problems can lead to the distortion of individual daily values.
