Irrespective of further federal government plans for financial relief for citizens, people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania again demonstrated against energy policy and the consequences of inflation. As police spokesman said, a total of several thousand participants came to protests in several cities on Monday evening – but probably significantly fewer than in previous weeks because of the holiday. Demonstrations were reported from Wismar, Waren, Ludwigslust, Neubrandenburg, Neustrelitz, Anklam and Rostock, among others.
In Schwerin, where there have been by far the most protesters in the past, the demonstration was canceled this time. An exact overview of the number of participants was not yet available, as some campaigns were still running, it said.
Speakers in several places again called for effective state aid to curb electricity and gas prices and to protect companies. Without effective protective measures, there is a risk of “de-industrialization” in Germany, which means that production companies that can no longer bear the high energy and raw material costs will emigrate.
