After the fire in an accommodation for Ukrainian refugees, the State Police Orchestra gave a benefit concert in Wismar’s Holy Spirit Church on Wednesday. The President of the State Parliament, Birgit Hesse, and the Minister of the Interior, Christian level (SPD), were there.
The donations of the evening should go to the Wismar Christian Aid Association, as announced by the Ministry of the Interior in Schwerin. The association organizes aid transports to Ukraine and holds information events for Ukrainian refugees. Admission is free.
In Groß Strömkendorf near Wismar, a former hotel that had been used as refugee accommodation burned down on the night of October 19th to 20th. Nobody got hurt. The police are investigating on suspicion of arson. A few days earlier, a swastika graffiti had appeared on a DRK sign a few meters away, which operated the accommodation. State security is therefore examining a possible political background to the fire.
