In the case of accidentally deleted state files, the responsible Ministry of Finance only sees errors in the Thuringian state data center. The deletion routine was developed there, which erroneously removed around 1,800 electronic documents, said ministry spokesman Uwe Büchner to MDR Thuringia, which reported on Saturday. Actually, the program should only have deleted duplicates. After discovering the data breach, the use of the deletion routine was prohibited.
In doing so, the Ministry made it clear that the data deletions are in no way related to the document management system used by the Free State. According to the MDR, the deletions should have happened in May. E-files from the State Chancellery and the Ministry of Justice from the years 2014 to 2021 were particularly affected. Most of the removed documents were still in paper form.
Irrespective of this, the CDU parliamentary group is demanding detailed clarification of the breakdown in the Parliament’s Judiciary Committee, according to the MDR. In the future, the Thuringian state administration is to work exclusively with digital e-files and dispense with paper files.
