A number of clubs in the 2nd Bundesliga bid farewell to the long winter break with a goal spectacle. On matchday 17, 29 goals were scored in the first six games. Promotion favorites Hamburger SV celebrated a 4-2 (1-0) win against SV Sandhausen, who are in danger of relegation.
The spectators also saw plenty of goals in the 5:4 (3:2) between FC Heidenheim and SV Jahn Regensburg and in the 4:4 (3:3) between Karlsruher SC and FC St. Pauli.
The HSV ended with the success against the table-16. Sandhausen as second in the first half of the season on a promotion place. An own goal and the second goal in this game by Robert Glatzel brought the decision in the final phase after Sandhausen had been able to equalize twice before. HSV’s joy was overshadowed by the subsequent news that central defender Mario Vuskovic, who did not play in the game, passed a doping test.

Promoted team 1. FC Kaiserslautern celebrated their third win in a row on Friday evening. Philipp Klement made it 2-1 (0-1) at Fortuna Düsseldorf with a penalty kick in injury time. Holstein Kiel and Hannover 96 separated 1:1 (1:1) and failed to move closer to the promotion places.
