According to EU Council President Charles Michel, the chief negotiators of the G20 members had agreed on the draft for a joint final declaration on Monday evening. The text still needs to be confirmed at Heads of State and Government level. The summit in Bali must be used to “convince all parties to increase the pressure on Russia,” Michel added shortly before the two-day deliberations began.
Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin will not attend the summit. He is represented by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
On the other hand, US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are present in Bali. The two met on Monday on the Indonesian island for their first personal meeting in their offices as heads of state. Both politicians visibly tried to relax. Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is taking part in the G20 summit on behalf of Germany.
