Batik Batik at the G20 summit on the Indonesian holiday island: Many of the heads of state and government appeared at the festive dinner in the Garuda-Wisnu-Kencana Cultural Park on Tuesday evening (local time) in the Batik shirt typical of the country, some of them in quite daring colors. Chancellor Olaf Scholz preferred a classic white shirt for the appointment.

In the press center, where the Indonesian President Joko Widodo was broadcasting the guests’ reception, two top politicians caused ecstasy as they walked the long red carpet. First, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau set a first highlight in a magenta shirt. There was applause and appreciative whistles. Then the new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak (42) topped the enthusiasm: he opted for a red, tight-fitting shirt.

The tie-dye shirts were gifts from the Indonesian G20 Presidency. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who represented President Vladimir Putin at the Nusa Dua summit, also took part: he came in tie-dye blue. Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, on the other hand, chose a traditional robe for dinner. US President Joe Biden apologized.

The park is located in the south of the island. It is dedicated to the Hindu deity Vishnu and the mythical bird-man Garuda. Garuda is also the heraldic animal of Indonesia. The top attraction in the park is the Garuda Wisnu statue, which is about 120 meters high.
