After a forced break of a few weeks, Yann Sommer was back in goal for the first time on Thursday. The Borussia Mönchengladbach keeper made his comeback in Switzerland’s friendly against Ghana.
A torn ligament in the ankle meant that Gladbach had to do without Yann Sommer in the last few games. The clear number one of the Fohlenelf and one of the most important players of the team had to sit out for several weeks.
The good news: the Swiss seems to have gotten over his injury in time for the start of the World Cup.
On Thursday the national team went to a dress rehearsal against Ghana. Both teams will take part in the tournament. Sommer was able to complete the test match from the starting XI and for the full 90 minutes.
Even though he conceded two goals in the 2-0 defeat, the goalkeeper didn’t seem to have any problems or pain anymore.
People in Gladbach will also be happy to hear what is of course primarily an advantage for himself and now for the Swiss national team. After all, the 33-year-old is an enormously important support.
