There was a fatal incident in Cologne on Thursday evening involving an armed man and a shot fired by police officers. Much remained unclear in the evening. According to the police and public prosecutor’s office, a 28-year-old called the emergency number around 7 p.m. and reported an attempted robbery in Ehrenfeld. A man, whose identity was still unknown that evening, tried to rob her while she was sitting in the car.
After the attempt failed, the woman pursued the perpetrator and informed the police of the man’s location. When officers arrived, he was standing at a taxi with a knife. When the man did not follow the command to put everything away, an officer is said to have shot him. According to the findings, the man fell to the ground and inflicted injuries on himself, according to the police. He died in the hospital.
The exact procedures of the operation are currently still unclear and are the subject of the investigation, which – for reasons of neutrality – has been entrusted to an investigative commission from the Bonn police, it was said late in the evening.
