A 27-year-old man was hit by a regional express near Stralsund while crossing the tracks and then ran away despite injuries. He left his shoes behind, according to the federal police. He walked in socks in the direction of a residential area in Stralsund’s Grünhufe district.
At first it was unclear who it was and how the person was doing. The police launched an appeal for witnesses through the media. In addition, officials searched with two tracking dogs. In the early hours of the morning, the 27-year-old finally went to a hospital in Stralsund because of his injuries. When the doctors admitted him around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, they suspected that their patient could be the wanted person based on the witness call. “This connection was confirmed by initial investigative measures,” said the federal police on Sunday. The nature and severity of the injuries were not disclosed.
According to the investigators, the man crossed the tracks at the Grünhufe stop around 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The regional express between Rostock and Stralsund caught him despite emergency braking.
