Hansi Flick’s team is knocked out of the tournament despite a 4-2 win against Costa Rica. The DFB team in the individual review:
Neuer: A brilliant act against Fuller (42nd minute). Powerless to equalize. Unhappy with the second goal. A very bitter record evening in the 19th and probably last World Cup game.
Kimmich: Moved back to the right for the first time under Flick for 45 minutes. Barely found play there. Even in the second half as a six he did not meet the high standards.
Süle: The man from Dortmund never found his way into this tournament after the false start in Japan. Too far away from his opponents. Prime example was the second goal.
Rüdiger: What a buck against Fuller (42nd) and confused when conceding the second goal. At the end he became more and more offensive – without fortune.
Space: In the initial swing with good flanks. Lost too much speed over the course of the game. Not stable on Costa Rica’s counterattacks.
Gündogan: Diligently distributed the balls in the center, he rarely got into the dangerous zones. Then had to give way for Füllkrug (55th) for tactical reasons.
Goretzka: The Munich player wasn’t fit. You could see that from the first minute. Without its typical dynamic. Out at halftime with muscular problems.
Gnabry: The German power man. Calmed the nerves with the first headed goal in the DFB dress. Was looking for a degree. But he did not become the great savior.
Musiala: Dribble, dribble, dribble. The fans murmured with enthusiasm. The young man from Munich failed to score his first World Cup goal at the World Cup premiere.
Sané: Started the 50th international match with a lot of speed. Create space in tight opponent defenses. It wasn’t enough for him to score the first World Cup goal either.
Müller: That was no longer World Cup level. Couldn’t repay Flick’s trust. Too much pinball. A sad end to the tournament for the Rio World Champion.
Klostermann: Came for the second half as a right defender. With too little radius of action to trigger the necessary goal whirl.
Filling jug: As a joker, threw everything in again. Failed only to Costa Rica goalkeeper Navas. His second World Cup goal was then a useless conclusion.
Havertz: Came on the final offensive and scored twice. But the Chelsea striker’s goals were no longer enough.
Götze: The Frankfurter came as a joker in the World Cup comeback, as against Japan. One chance, nothing more. The Rio moment could not be repeated.
Ginter: The Freiburger got his first World Cup minutes from Flick in injury time at the third World Cup tournament.
