1. FC Union Berlin also missed out on a victory in its last game in the Champions League and had to admit defeat to the big favorites Real Madrid. The table 15th. of the Bundesliga lost 2:3 (1:0) in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin after a great fight.
After the Union team took the lead through Kevin Volland in stoppage time in the first half (45′), Joselu (61′) equalized. The former Bundesliga professional also scored the Madrilenians’ second goal eleven minutes later, before substitute Alex Kral (85th) equalized for the Berliners. The decision was made in the 89th minute when Dani Ceballos scored the winning goal for the visitors, who also took three points in their sixth game in Group C.
Union, however, not only missed the longed-for first three-point success in its first participation in the European championship, but also at least overwintered in the Europa League. Rival SC Braga lost at the same time to group runners-up SSC Napoli, but got four points from a total of six games, while Köpenick only got two.
