Handball champions SC Magdeburg and Bundesliga third-placed Rhein-Neckar Löwen easily made it into the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup.

Last year’s finalist from Magdeburg clearly prevailed in the round of 16 against Bundesliga rivals Bergischer HC with 43:31 (22:16). At MT Melsungen, the Mannheim team also achieved a safe 36:28 (18:12).

Also in the round of the last eight teams, which will be drawn on Friday, are VfL Gummersbach after a 34:31 (16:14) at ASV Hamm-Westfalen and TBV Lemgo Lippe, who beat second division club HC Elbflorenz with 32:27 ( 17:16) won. Cup defender THW Kiel only plays on Thursday at the second division team SG BBM Bietigheim.

Magdeburg dominated the game in front of 4561 spectators and had their best throwers in pivot Magnus Saugstrop (10 goals) and left winger Matthias Musche (9). The national players Juri Knorr (8), Patrick Groetzki and Jannik Kohlbacher (both 6) were particularly impressive for the Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
