The city of Augsburg had recently announced that the cost for the theater renovation could rise from the once-planned 186 on more than 300 million euros. Currently, the city anticipates a minimum of approximately 230 million. However, since the General renovation of the theatre to run for several years, further cost improvements are expected.
The project consists of the modernization of the historic Great house and new buildings. In these new buildings, a second stage, workshops, warehouses and the theatre management is to be housed. Critics of the project call for the new buildings to save and use for any of the two currently-used alternative venues permanently.
