BOULDER (Colo.) — The Arizona team with the longest losing streak in the country was the perfect salve for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Coach Karl Dorrell stated Saturday that Colorado ended a four-game skid by defeating the Wildcats 34-0 at Folsom Field.
This was the first conference shutout by the Buffaloes (2-4 Pac-12, 1-2 Pac-12), since Oklahoma State beat them by the same score Oct. 1, 2005 when they were in Big 12.
Dorrell stated, “This is a great win for us as an organization because all three areas scored touchdowns.”
The Buffs extended the nation’s longest losing streak by 18 games with a block punt and interception.
After a disappointing season-opening loss to Northern Colorado, the Buffaloes were able to overcome their four-game losing streak with Trevor Woods’ 36 -yard scoop and score of the punt that he blocked, and defensive end Carson Wells 50 yard interception return for a touchdown in consecutive Arizona possessions.
The third quarter ended with Colorado leading 27-0 thanks to a Brenden Rice scoring strike from Lewis.
Lewis was 12 of 19 for 248 yards with two touchdowns, while Rice caught three passes for 112 yards.
The Buffs only managed two field goals in the first half against Arizona, which hasn’t won since their 35-30 win over Colorado at Folsom Field on October 5, 2019.
