Chicago (Reuters) – Basketball legend Michael Jordan wants to promote in the next ten years, with a donation total of $ 100 million (about 88 million euros), the fight against racism.

The money should flow to organizations that campaigned for equality, social justice and educational opportunities, it said in a Statement from Jordan’s spokesperson.

The 57-year-old Jordan had already shown up before, “sad, really distressed and angry” by the brutal death of the African-American George Floyd in Minneapolis. Floyd died after a police operation, his death had triggered a wave of protest against racism and police violence in the United States.

“Black lives count. As long as the deep-rooted racism (…) is not eradicated in our country completely, we will continue to protect the lives of black people and improve”, – stated in the Statement of the six-time NBA Champions.
