Argentina and New Zealand have reached the semi-finals of the Rugby World Cup.
The “All Blacks” from New Zealand prevailed against world number one Ireland 28:24 (18:17) in a dramatic quarter-final at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. The New Zealanders were already clearly leading 13-0 before the Irish made things exciting again.
The three-time world champions will face Argentina in the semi-finals. The outsider from South America had previously surprisingly beaten Wales 29:17 (6:10) in Marseille and reached a World Cup semi-final for the third time.
To the delight of grandstand guest Prince William, the Welsh initially had everything under control in the packed Stade Velodrome and were quickly 10-0 ahead. But after that the Argentinians got stronger and turned the game around to a 12:10 lead. Michael Cheika’s team also had an answer to the renewed Welsh lead. Argentina had previously reached the semi-finals in 2007 and 2015 but had never won the title.
