Jan-Lennard Struff was eliminated in the first round of the Munich tennis tournament.

A week after entering the quarter-finals at the Masters in Monte Carlo, the 32-year-old Warsteiner was beaten by the Swiss Alexander Ritschard 5:7, 5:7. At his last appearance on the Iphitos facility, Struff reached the final in 2021.

Oscar Otte, on the other hand, made it into the top 16. The man from Cologne defeated the Argentinian clay court specialist Sebastian Baez 6:3, 7:5 and is now the clear favorite in the game against the Italian Flavio Cobolli. The 29-year-old could meet Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals.

pressure drops

For Otte, the opening victory in Munich was only the fourth success this year. Since his knee operation last summer, the German has been waiting for great success on the tour. Otte wants to use the tournament in Munich, worth around 560,000 euros, to regain his self-confidence. “I’m relieved. There’s a little pressure off my shoulders,” said last year’s semi-finalist.

The Munich local hero Max Rehberg, on the other hand, missed a small sensation. The 19-year-old number 412 in the world had to admit defeat against Marton Fucsovics after a big fight 6: 4, 6: 7 (6: 8), 3: 6. The German led 4-1 in the second set against the Hungarian, who was around 350 places higher, and missed two match points in the tie-break.

In addition to Otte, Yannick Hanfmann and Alexander Zverev are already in the round of 16. Zverev plays against Australian Christopher O’Connell on Wednesday.
