Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich “Didi” Mateschitz, who rose to fame and fortune as the owner of energy drink brand Red Bull, has died at the age of 78. Bundesliga club RB Leipzig also mourns Mateschitz.

RB Leipzig is one of Red Bull’s most successful sports products that Mateschitz built up with his fortune. The club, which was founded just 14 years ago, is now an established Champions League club and can even boast a major title by winning the DFB Cup last year.

“RB Leipzig is deeply shocked and saddened by the news of Dietrich Mateschitz’s death. Our condolences and sympathy go to his family, relatives and friends. Despite all the sadness, we would also like to express our great gratitude for everything Dietrich Mateschitz has given us made possible as a club. His passion for sport, his commitment and spirit will always remain an inspiring role model for us and we see it as our responsibility to continue his vision for RB Leipzig in his spirit,” said RB Leipzig’s statement on the official club page.
