The German U21s ended the international season with a win in Italy. After defeats against France (0:1) and England (1:3), coach Antonio Di Salvo’s selection won 4:2 (1:0) after an overall convincing performance.
In front of a sparsely occupied ranks in Ancona, Cologne debutant Denis Huseinbasic (23rd minute), Lazar Samardzic (52nd) from Udinese Calcio, Freiburg’s Kevin Schade (56th) and Maurice Malone (88th hand penalty) from Wolfsberger AC scored the lead Part worth seeing German goals in an entertaining friendly game.
Matteo Cancellieri (66th/74th) made the game that had already been decided exciting again. In the heated final phase, Giorgio Cittadini (85th) saw the red card after an emergency brake, Raoul Bellanova had to leave the field with a yellow card (87th).
Sovereign victory of the German team
In a challenging game in difficult conditions with puddles on the pitch, the German selection was the superior team despite a few failures. Unlike Di Salvo’s side, the hosts didn’t use their chances effectively, but also had fewer than Germany. DFB captain Malick Thiaw (AC Milan), for example, casually scratched a Bellanova ball off the line in the game in the adopted country (54th). A little later, the Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu was twice powerless as a secure backup against the Lazio striker.
After the defeats against France and England, the German U21 national team showed that they learned from the defeats in September and deserved to win.
The next course for the German U21s on the way to the European Championship will take place from March 19th to 29th, 2023. The EURO finals will take place in Georgia and Romania from June 21 to July 8. Germany is the defending champion.
